Canopic Chest Belonging to Hatshepsut
This canopic chest, which was used to store the jars that contained the embalmed internal organs, belonged to Queen Hatshepsut. Her cartouche "Maat-Ka-Re" is written on it. It is a shrine-shaped box with four compartments made of quartzite, the same material that was used for her royal sarcophagus. The compartments should have contained the jars in which her internal organs were preserved. Religious texts for the protection of the organs decorate the chest. | ||
