Ceremonial Shield of King Amasis Egy00510
This ceremonial aegis, or shield, of King Amasis shows a head wearing the Nemes headdress and uraeus, or royal cobra, as well as a broad beaded collar. This head may portray the king himself or a male god.

Beneath the image of the head, the throne name and the birth name of King Amasis are written in two cartouches. They are preceded by the royal epithets, "The perfect god, the son of the sun god."

This type of shield is usually held by gods in scenes on temple walls, and would also be used as an ornament to decorate the front of the sacred boat.
