Box Containing Eight Alabaster Vases
The wooden box has a lid and contains a set of eight cylindrical alabaster vases. They had been filled and then carefully stored inside the box in two rows. The lid of each vase has the name of its contents written in low relief. The precise meaning of these names is still unknown. These vases contained the seven sacred ointments and oils, which had been used since the time of the Old Kingdom. A vase of eye paint brings the total to eight. | ||
