Canopic Case of Sennedjem
The canopic case, which is in the shape of a mummy case, was used to contain the organs of Sennedjem. Sennedjem was the Chief Artisan of Deir el-Medina village. He was responsible for building and decorating royal tombs. The canopic case is made of two pieces and was found wrapped in linen. It depicts Sennedjem in the shape of the god of the dead, Osiris, with his arms crossed on his chest. He wears a long wig falling in two thick plaits, one over each shoulder. A large collar adorns his neck. The carefully incised hieroglyphic inscriptions, which give his name and title, are an invocation for protection to Hapi, who was responsible for guarding the lungs. | ||
