Block with Scorpion
The block is completely occupied by a scorpion in high relief. The scorpion is depicted in detail with its eight legs and two pincers, its eyes, its striped body, and most importantly with its tail containing the poison glands and stinger. For magical reasons, the scorpion was portrayed in many reliefs without its tail to deprive it of the dangerous sting. As with many other frightening creatures, it was venerated as a deity, the goddess of protection, Selket. | ||
